Prof. Dr. David Reinhoudt
Professor David N. Reinhoudt studied Chemical Technology at the Delft University of Technology and graduated (suma cum laude) in chemistry in 1969 with Professor H.C. Beijerman. He is part-time professor Applied Chemistry at the Radboud University Nijmegen and as part-time professor Inorganic Materials Science at the University of Twente. Professor Reinhoudt is the founder and first director of the MESA+ Research Institute for Nanotechnology (1998-2007). In the past 30 years he has actively pursued the application of supramolecular chemistry. Application of supramolecular chemistry e.g. in the field of electronic or optical sensor systems, catalysis, biochips, molecular materials and in “lab-on-a-chip” technology. He is the author of more than 1000 scientific publications, patents, review articles, and books. He has been honored with the Izatt-Christensen award (1995), the Simon Stevin Mastership (1998). He is an honorary doctor of the Universities of Parma (2007) and Pécs (2010), was awarded the medal of merit of the University of Twente (2007). He is Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion (2002). From 2002-2011 he was the chairman of the Board of NanoNed, the Dutch Network for Nanotechnology. He is a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Fellow of the Institute of Physics. He was involved in many international scientific programs among which the prestigious International Program of the JST with Prof. Shinkai. (Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan).
